Overview
The 2025 Acura TLX Type S offers plenty of power and enjoyable driving dynamics, making it a compelling high-value sport sedan buy at less than $60,000. It lacks the pedigree of its European rivals, but a commodious cabin and plenty of tech help overshadow minor issues like a finicky touchpad interface and wind noise.

Drive and Performance 7.8
/10
The Acura TLX Type S offers well-weighted and communicative steering, especially in its Sport setting and with optional Pirelli summer tires. Turn-in is crisp, and overall handling is balanced and confidence-building. The Brembo brakes perform well during hard stops, adding to the stability enabled by the well-sorted suspension. While some critics say the overall feel becomes disconnected when pushed, the TLX Type S ultimately delivers solid performance and composure, if not quite achieving the level of some of its significantly more costly rivals.
The 355-horsepower TLX Type S offers quick acceleration and responsive power delivery, making it fun for straight-line sprints, and the 10-speed automatic transmission provides smooth and timely shifts in both normal and Sport+ modes. The Super-Handling All-Wheel Drive system puts down power effectively, and throttle response is satisfyingly quick, though the V6 engine shows some turbo lag off the line. In all, it’s an engaging powertrain
Fuel Economy 9.5
/10
The 2025 Acura TLX Type S doesn’t match the stellar fuel economy of its stablemates, but its EPA estimates of 19 mpg in the city and 25 mpg on the highway are still praiseworthy for a midsize sport sedan.
Interior 6.7
/10
The five-person TLX Type S features an expressive cabin design with sporty elements like a prominent drive-mode selector and two large digital displays, one in front of the driver and one in the center of the dashboard. The interior demonstrates Acura’s solid craftsmanship and features upscale trim such as open-pore wood and real aluminum. While it may not fully match the ambiance of a BMW 3 Series or Genesis G70, the TLX’s interior offers high-quality materials, thoughtful details and comfortable seating, making it an appealing space to spend time. Its available red upholstery adds a vibrant touch.
The TLX’s 13.5-cubic-foot trunk is one of the largest in the class, though the Type S sacrifices rear-seat pass-through space due to added chassis bracing. A wide trunk opening aids with loading, but the short decklid can hinder access to the deeper part of the trunk
Value 9.3
/10

Safety N/A
The 2025 TLX Type S hasn’t been crash-tested, but the Acura does come with a nice bundle of standard active safety features, including forward automatic emergency braking, lane-departure warning, lane-keep assist and blind-spot monitoring.
For installing child safety seats, there are two complete sets of LATCH connectors for the rear outboard seats. There’s also a tether anchor for the rear middle seat, and you can borrow lower anchors from the adjoining seats when they’re not in use. This LATCH system is among the easiest and most versatile to use.
Quality and Reliability N/A
The 2025 Acura TLX Type S does not have a predicted reliability score at the time of writing.
